Streamlining the feasibility and design process in civil engineering

Through our work delivering end-to-end civil engineering services to construction and project managers, we’ve been able to streamline our entire process to provide a high-quality engineering solution as well as the ultimate support, from pre-to-post construction.

Let’s look at the initial stages of this process: feasibility and design.

Conducting an initial project assessment

When we begin consulting on a project, we first start by conducting a thorough civil engineering assessment.

This stage sees us working with clients and key stakeholders to get a clear understanding of the project’s scope, goals, requirements, budget and desired timeframe.

We’ll look into the proposed construction site to evaluate the terrain, environmental factors and existing conditions that could help or hinder the project.

We’ll also conduct research into the local regulations and compliance requirements to start understanding all the zoning, environment and safety guidelines that we need to consider.

This initial assessment is where we’ll be able to source detailed answers to any questions you might have, like:

  • Can I develop this particular site?
  • How can I make the stormwater drainage work?
  • Is what I’m planning even possible?

From assessment to feasibility

Once we’ve finished our initial assessment and reported our findings, we conduct a more in-depth feasibility study to further confirm the viability of your project. We’ll provide guidance around whether the project is viable within your budget and timeline.

We’ll also study the soil and rock properties on the site, identifying particular foundation requirements as well as any potential areas of risk that we need to address, including compliance issues.

Creating an engineering concept and design

If we assess the project as viable during the feasibility phase, we’ll then move into the design stage to give you a preliminary design that outlines the key features and civil engineering solutions for the project.

This phase includes a lot of communication and collaboration to ensure we’re collecting all the information possible to create an ideal, tailored solution for you.

While each project requires different designs and planning, we’ll typically include factors like:

  • Earthwork plans to balance the grounds for construction
  • ESC controls to minimise flooding and effectively manage water runoff
  • Wastewater and stormwater treatment to adhere to local regulations and minimise environmental impacts.

During the design stage, we’ll be considering all the possible engineering solutions that will help you build resilient infrastructure that will contribute positively to the community and environment around it.
